MUELLER NICHOLLS DONATES STAGE EXTENSIONS TO BAY AREA CHILDREN’S THEATRE

BERKELEY, CA—October 2011

Mueller Nicholls is thrilled to announce our in-kind donation of stage extensions to the Bay Area Children’s Theatre. Nina Meehan, their Executive Director (and lead development go-getter) approached MN almost a year ago with what seemed to be a donor-recipient match made in heaven.

BACT needed the stage extensions for the opener to their 2011-2012 season, a world premier of one of the wildly popular Magic School Bus books, “The Magic School Bus Live! The Climate Challenge.” The program features the indomitable Ms. Frizzle and her class, as they travel the planet to find out why temperatures are rising, why we should care, and what we can do about it.

What could be more perfect than asking a green builder to provide stage extensions for a performance about climate change? Mueller Nicholls enthusiastically embarked on the new challenge of procuring stage extensions. After much web-based research, very careful measuring, and one final onsite cut, the stage extensions were ready to embark on their maiden voyage. How appropriate that these sturdy extensions, which blend seamlessly with the existing stage, should debut with a musical whose mantra is “Reduce, re-use, recycle, re-think!” The stage extensions reduce the need for a new stage, the space at Freight and Salvage gets re-used for an alternative purpose, and the extensions will essentially be recycled over and over and over for many seasons to come. It’s a great example of re-thinking about what is possible for decreasing our impact on the precious planet we call earth.
